This week has been a killer week for Mitt Romney. For example, a straw poll in Arizona shows Romney ahead of John McCain. Furthermore, recent statements made by Rudy Giuliani cast doubt on whether he is really serious about running for the presidency. According to hotlineblog, Rudy stated “I think the biggest question you have to ask is, ‘Can you really lead the country?’ If I believe that I can do it, then I will, and if I don’t, then I’ll support somebody else.” Mitt’s Republican rivals seem to be lossing ground. Like usual, Mitt also recruited more key players for his presidential exploratory team. According to CNN, “Mitt Romney ventured to Capitol Hill Thursday to meet with a group of about 40 House Republicans. The former Massachusetts governor was invited to address the House GOP ‘theme team,’ chaired by Rep. Jack Kingston of Georgia. Romney addressed a range of issues, including how he will handle questions about his membership in the Mormon Church on the campaign trail. On the issue of his religion, Romney ‘said that people of America want a person who’s going to be a person of faith, regardless of their religion,’ Rep. Tom Price of Georgia told CNN.”
“Romney cited several conservative religious leaders who agreed that faith would be an important issue in 2008, including Franklin Graham, Pat Robertson and Gary Bauer, he added. Price, who has not formally endorsed a candidate yet, said he was impressed by Romney. ‘He brings a kind of optimism and enthusiasm that our party needs,’ Price said.”
Mitt’s visit to Washington paid off. According to CNN, Romney recruited 16 RNC members to be part of his presidential exploratory committee. He stated, “In our Party and in their respective states, these men and women will be tireless advocates for our common ideals of lowering taxes, curbing runaway spending, promoting traditional values, and providing for a strong national defense. . . . In just two weeks, we have put together a strong team united by an optimistic vision for the future and motivated to go forward.”

According to our friends at reason4romney.blogspot.com Anne Coulter supports Mitt too. Evidentially “on Hannity and Colmes … [she] threw her support to Mitt Romney for President. When asked who she likes for President either McCain, Gulliani or Romney, she responded Romney twice. This appears to be the trend among most ‘common sense conservatives.’ They are recognizing that Mitt Romney is the only capable and qualified candidate for 1600 Pennsylvania Blvd. Mitt’s positive vision is resonating with the Reagan generation.”
By the way, does anyone have a master list of who’s on Mitt’s team?
There were also several complementary articles about Mitt. One US News’ article was titled “Romney Is on the Fast Track.” It states that “Mitt Romney appears to be forming his campaign operation faster than planned. White House and GOP leadership officials noted today that Romney’s wave of appointments and listing of backers is a sign that he’s pushing up plans to forcefully challenge Sen. John McCain.”
“Just today, for example, he brought on former National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Carl Forti as political director. Romney’s ability to raise millions in donations has also sparked a new interest in his campaign as proof that it will be able to compete with McCain and other likely candidates. Campaign insiders say that the effort is coming together fast, in part because Romney is running the operation out of Boston and that has led to a family feeling in the office.”
“The fact that joining this shop requires a move to Boston is actually an advantage,” says one insider. “It requires a personal and professional investment that yields a valuable return for Governor Romney. There’s a greater sense of teamwork and commitment because of it.”
Another US News article was titled “The Romney Buzz is Back.” The article stated that “[w]hat GOP political analysts say he brings to the table is a fresh face and a track record of accomplishment, not just in the Bay State but also as the chief exec at the 2002 Olympics. He’s also handsome and articulate.” For more information see georgiansforromney.blogspot.com.
